S.C.R. 48. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating the Granite Center Garden Club on its 70th anniversary.
Whereas, gardens brighten a community with color and beauty, and instill a sense of civic pride, and
Whereas, for 70 years, the Granite Center Garden Club (GCGC) has promoted botany and horticultural activities in the Barre community through its mission “to increase knowledge of gardening, to promote the conservation of natural resources, and to participate in the community through beautification projects,” and
Whereas, at the Aldrich Library, the GCGC has planted trees and flowers, decorated the building at the holiday season, and donated books on gardening, and
Whereas, in 1968, the GCGC landscaped the grounds of the new Central Vermont Hospital, and
Whereas, another major endeavor for the GCGC was the planting of crab apple trees on Auditorium Hill and at the new Spaulding High School, and
Whereas, the students and faculty at Barre City and Barre town elementary schools have enjoyed the butterfly gardens that the GCGC planted on their respective school grounds, and
Whereas, the GCGC’s floral arrangements are featured at the Paletteers Art Show, and
Whereas, regional Habitat for Humanity homes are the sites for GCGC’s tree and flower plantings, and
Whereas, in recognition of the GCGC’s contributions to the city’s landscape over the past seven decades, the Barre City Council has officially honored this community-minded organization, and
Whereas, on April 19, 2007, the GCGC will observe its 70th anniversary, an occasion of great celebration for garden lovers in the Barre area, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the Granite Center Garden Club on its 70th anniversary, and be it further
Resolved: That the Secretary of State be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Phyllis Andrews, chair of the Granite Center Garden Club.
