By Representatives Keenan of St. Albans City, Fitzgerald of St. Albans City, Allard of St. Albans Town and Howrigan of Fairfield,

S.C.R. 47.  Senate concurrent resolution congratulating Caitlin Manahan on being named the 2008 Miss Hockey.

Whereas, Caitlin Manahan’s enthusiasm for the fast-paced game of ice hockey was apparent to BFA-St. Albans Comets girls’ hockey coach Luke Cioffi when he watched her compete as a junior high school player, and

Whereas, she is an extremely talented player whose skills continued to improve during her four years as a Comet, and she contributed in a major way to her team’s three Division I titles during the past four years, including in 2008 when she scored two of the three Comet goals in the championship game, and

Whereas, Caitlin Manahan now holds her school’s all-time girls’ ice hockey scoring record with 153 points and an impressive 98 goals, and

Whereas, team leadership is an inclusive concept for Caitlin Manahan whose play on the ice and interactions with her teammates are always collaborative and never self-centered, and

Whereas, off the ice, Caitlin is a caring individual whose concern for the welfare of others is manifested in many ways, such as her participation in a school work trip to a rural Nicaraguan village to which she planned to return during the 2008 spring break, and

Whereas, she intends to major in human services and Spanish at Elmira College, where she will of course play ice hockey, and she hopes to serve in the Peace Corps following her college studies, continuing her goal of community service on an international level, and

Whereas, in recognition of her outstanding career in high school hockey, the Burlington Free Press has honored Caitlin Manahan by naming her the newspaper’s 2008 Miss Hockey, a title bestowed on the young woman that its sportswriters deem to be this season’s top woman high school ice hockey player in the state, and

Whereas, Caitlin Manahan is an outstanding human being whose hockey talents add luster to a person whose personal values are a model for her peers, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
