|RESOLUTION AS INTRODUCED||2007-2008|
By Senators Condos, Flanagan, Lyons, Miller, Racine and Snelling,
S.C.R. 6. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating the 2006 Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) Redhawks Division I championship boys’ soccer team.
Whereas, the CVU Redhawks boys’ soccer team, the Division I champions from 2002–2005, faced new challenges in 2006, having lost eight outstanding graduating seniors and its veteran coach, Dan Shepardson, and
Whereas, the school fielded a first-rate team under the guidance of new head coach T.J. Mead, himself a famous alumnus of the CVU soccer program, and
Whereas, the Redhawks earned both the top playoff ranking and a 16–1 record that they brought to this year’s championship game against the talented third-seeded South Burlington High School Rebels, and
Whereas, these nearly evenly-matched squads played an intensive, but scoreless, game until with one minute and 34 seconds remaining in the first half, CVU’s Ian Dudley’s timely assist enabled teammate Tyler Macnee to score the day’s first point, and
Whereas, the second half’s scoring featured a single South Burlington goal that began with a long Rebel offensive run, leaving the game tied at one-all when regulation play concluded, and
Whereas, after CVU goalie Andreas Varsakopoulos made a spectacular save early in overtime play, the two teams battled exhaustion and a cold wind for over 30 minutes until Tyler Macnee kicked the championship goal following a well-executed assist from CVU teammate Micah Rose, and
Whereas, the 2006 CVU boys’ soccer roster, consisting of Jonathan Bateman, Andreas Varsakopoulos, Sean Brady, Eric Vecchio, Cam Powden, Carson Cornbrooks, Kevin Ford, Ian Dudley, Ethan Morrow, Kyle Carrier, Thomas Dinitz, Micah Rose, Evan Karge, Jeffery Abbott, Matt Sulva, Matt Francis, Tyler Gagliuso, Will Hemingway, Tyler Macnee, Andy Borah, Peter Raszka, Charlie Marks, Josh Parker, Lucas Hawley and Whitney Mikell, was one of great skill, and
Whereas, coach T.J. Mead has inaugurated his Redhawk coaching career in grand style, and appreciated the great support of assistant coaches Jeff Evans and Stan Williams, now therefore be it
