|RESOLUTION AS INTRODUCED||2007-2008|
By Senators Condos, Flanagan, Lyons, Miller, Racine and Snelling,
S.C.R. 5. Senate concurrent resolution congratulating the 2006 Burlington High School Seahorses Division II championship football team.
Whereas, the Burlington High School Seahorses football team last won the Division II championship title in 1999 when it defeated the South Burlington High School Rebels, and
Whereas, in the fall of 2006, after the Rebels defeated the Seahorses 37–6, the Burlington players recognized the need to reenergize their game plan, and
Whereas, in the following weeks, the Seahorses exhibited a disciplined style of play as they were victorious in eight of their nine remaining games, and
Whereas, Burlington’s improved performance provided the ticket to a berth in the Division II final, and once again, its southern neighbor, South Burlington, was ready to engage in gridiron battle, and
Whereas, the Seahorses turned in stellar offensive and defensive performances on the field, and Burlington’s skillful play also caused its opponents to fumble the ball on three occasions, and
Whereas, Burlington’s Andrew Plumley garnered 100 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and teammates Riley Lessor and Josh Carey each added a touchdown to the Seahorses’ total, and
Whereas, when the final whistle sounded, the Seahorses were on top 27–12 and the new owners of the 2006 Division II football championship title, and
Whereas, the 2006 football Seahorses, including Josh Carey, Paul Messier, A.J. Dusablon, Michael Carrier, Zac Carr, Jason Murray, Travis Hunt, Andrew Plumley, Derek Stubbs, Casey DeGuise, James Hance, Peter Opel, Nolan Cain, Riley Lessor, Justin Dacres, Luke Gallagher, Sam Smith, Kevin Messier, Dipu Chiappetta, Anup Chiappetta, Dwight Stannard, Woody Orr, Richard Poquette, Marty Bombard, Justin Leombruno, David Cooper, Chris Brault, Leland King, Graham Kenworthy, Kiah Ellis, Colton Dober, Greg Guyette, Adam Chicoine, Andrew Staples, James Gilbert and Owen Ryan, proved that when a team plays with 100 percent effort, victory will follow, and
Whereas, head coach Jim Marrier and assistant coaches Sean Quinn, Todd Gregory and Pat Brown were wonderful mentors throughout the season, now therefore be it
