House concurrent resolution congratulating Wesley Carpenter and Shelby Miller of Richmond in the 2008 Vermont Skills USA competition

Whereas, Wesley Carpenter grew up in Richmond and graduated from Mount Mansfield Union High School, and

Whereas, he studied engineering at Clarkson University and is currently enrolled in the aviation course at the Burlington Technical Center, and

Whereas, Shelby Miller is a senior at Mount Mansfield Union High and is currently enrolled in the auto body repair course at the Burlington Technical Center, and

Whereas, Skills USA is “a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled work force,” and annually it conducts competitions of students’ technical skills as part of conferences held in each state, and

Whereas, the 2008 Vermont Skills USA aviation and auto body repair competitions were recently held in Burlington, and

Whereas, at the aviation competition, Wesley Carpenter was awarded a gold medal attesting to the excellence of his performance and the depth of his knowledge of the required technical skills, and

Whereas, in the auto body repair competition, Shelby Miller demonstrated that she is adept in this field, and the judges were pleased to award her the gold medal, and

Whereas, each of these outstanding students will now represent Vermont at the national Skills USA Competition to be held in June in Kansas City, Missouri, and

Whereas, their respective outstanding performances in this statewide competition reflect on the high-quality instruction that is offered at the Burlington Technical Center, and

Whereas, both Wesley Carpenter and Shelby Miller serve as model students for their classmates at the Burlington Technical Center to emulate, and they each hope to pursue careers in their chosen occupational specialties, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the general assembly congratulates Wesley Carpenter and Shelby Miller on being awarded gold medals at the 2008 Vermont Skills USA Competition and extends to them best wishes for success at the national event, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Wesley Carpenter and to Shelby Miller in Richmond and to the Burlington Technical Center.
