Whereas, one of the most promising young country music performers who has recently impressed judges at both state and international competitions, is Chandler Kennedy of Guildhall, a ninth grade honors student at Groveton High School in Groveton, New Hampshire, and

Whereas, Chandler Kennedy first performed as a singer at age two, and more recently, while residing in Virginia, sang in both school and all-state choruses, and

Whereas, her recent interest in pursuing country music singing prompted her to enter the 2007 New Hampshire Country Music Association’s 20th Annual Talent Search in the 13- to 16-year-old female vocalist category, and

Whereas, Chandler Kennedy’s singing of two country music tunes, Rascal Flatts’s “What Hurts the Most” and Taylor Swift’s “Teardrops On My Guitar,” delighted the judges who named her the competition’s 2007 Female Vocalist of the Year for her age group, and

Whereas, the New Hampshire win entitled Chandler Kennedy to compete at the North American Country Music Association International’s competition in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, and

Whereas, at the Tennessee event, Chandler Kennedy was competing against some of the premier 13- to 16- year-old female country music vocalists, and she had no serious expectations of winning against such prestigious competitors, and

Whereas, Chandler Kennedy’s own performance expectations proved far too modest, as this truly gifted young musician sang on key, with clarity, and with enthusiasm, convincing the judges that first place in the 13- to 16-year-old female vocalist category belonged to this new talent from the far north, and

Whereas, her award-winning performance earned Chandler Kennedy the opportunity to return to Tennessee to record a singing performance on a CD that the North American Country Music Association International is producing, featuring all the competition’s winners, and

Whereas, Chandler Kennedy, who also sings Broadway and operatic selections, has a promising musical odyssey in her future, and

Whereas, on Wednesday, April 23, 2008, Chandler Kennedy made her performing debut in the state house, singing, with great enthusiasm, our national anthem in the well of the house, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Chandler Kennedy on her victories in state and international country music vocal competitions, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Chandler Kennedy.
