Joint Concurrent House Resolution

House concurrent resolution congratulating Robert Hamlin on his extraordinary high school wrestling career

Offered by:  Representatives Barnard of Richmond, Dostis of Waterbury, Frank of Underhill, Minter of Waterbury and Symington of Jericho

Whereas, Robert Hamlin has proven he is one of the strongest and most skilled high school wrestlers in the state of Vermont, and

Whereas, since entering Mount Mansfield High School as a freshman, he has won the individual wrestling championship in his weight class during his freshman, sophomore, and junior years, and

Whereas, in 2007 as a junior, Robert Hamlin finished third in the Junior National wrestling competition held at Virginia Beach, Virginia going 8-1 and only losing to the national champion, and

Whereas, in 2008, as a senior, Robert Hamlin entered the state high school wrestling championship meet at Keefe Gymnasium in Rutland with the objective of earning his fourth consecutive individual title, and his quest proved successful, and

Whereas, wrestling this year in the 171-pound class, Robert Hamlin continued to display his dexterity and skill on the wrestling mat as he convincingly outscored his opponent from Fair Haven Union High School, winning an overwhelming 17–2 victory, and

Whereas, this impressive performance earned Robert Hamlin the tournament’s most valuable wrestler award and he was also named the tournament’s outstanding sportsman, and

Whereas, he is only the seventh Vermont high school wrestler to capture an individual title in each of his four years, finishing with an overall Vermont career record of 172–3, and

Whereas, Robert Hamlin won his third consecutive New England wrestling championship title at the regional competition in Lowell, Massachusetts where he won three preliminary round matches and then a thrilling 5-4 championship round victory, and

Whereas, this stunning accomplishment gained him automatic induction into the New England Wrestling Hall of Fame, and on March 7 he was named a Burlington Free Press athlete of the week and

Whereas, Robert Hamlin’s commitment to intensive athletic training and the highest level of wrestling performance have not deterred him from aspiring to academic excellence, and he has earned high honors at Mount Mansfield High School, and

Whereas, his wrestling and scholarly pursuits will continue this fall when he enters Lehigh University as a member of the class of 2012, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Robert Hamlin on winning his fourth consecutive individual Vermont and third New England championship titles and for his induction into the New England Wrestling Hall of Fame, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Robert Hamlin.
