H.C.R. 270

House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2008 Mount Anthony Union High School Lady Patriots Division I championship Nordic ski team

Offered by:  Representatives Morrissey of Bennington, Botzow of Pownal, Corcoran of Bennington, Krawczyk of Bennington, Miller of Shaftsbury and Mook of Bennington

Offered by:  Senator Sears

Whereas, the Nordic skiing state high school championship tournament is eagerly anticipated among high school cross-country skiers in Vermont, and

Whereas, the heavy and frequent snowfalls this winter enabled the competitors to ski in ideal conditions on powdery snowy course surfaces, and

Whereas, the tournament is a two-day event with the first day’s competition, the classical races, occurring at the Rikert Ski Touring Center in Middlebury on Saturday, February 16, and the concluding day’s races held at Mountain Top in Chittenden on Thursday, February 21, and

Whereas, the Division I girls’ competition proved a special showcase for the extremely talented young women Nordic skiers from Mount Anthony Union High School (MAUHS) in Bennington who, as the 2007 champions, were seeking to extend their winning streak to two in a row, and

Whereas, once again, the MAUHS Lady Patriots skiers earned the top, or to be accurate in skiing parlance the lowest, scoring total of 86 points, while the second‑place Champlain Valley team trailed far behind at 169, and

Whereas, the quick and talented Lady Patriot skiers who brought a second Division I Nordic ski championship title home to their school were Melissa Buckley, Kristen Carra, Carson Casey, Olivia Casey-Moore, Mem Daliey, Anya Eckhardt, Kelsey Hoar, Catherine Keenan, Mackenzie Kurtzner, Charlotte Malmborg, Emily Pietrucha, Elisabeth Seyferth, Julia Seyferth, Catherine Sharkey, Helen Sharkey, and Lettie Stratton, and

Whereas, the Lady Patriots’ skiing talents were polished under the tutelage of head coach Bruce Smith and assistant coach Rob Short, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 2008 Mount Anthony Union High School Lady Patriots Division I championship Nordic ski team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Bruce Smith at Mount Anthony Union High School in Bennington.
