Joint Concurrent House Resolution

H.C.R. 259

House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2008 Essex High School Hornets championship gymnastics team

Offered by:  Representative Myers of Essex, Evans of Essex, Heath of Westford, Hunt of Essex and Jerman of Essex

Whereas, the members of the Essex High School Hornets gymnastics team are celebrated for performing their intricate maneuvers carefully, expertly, gracefully, and precisely, and

Whereas, the past high cumulative individual scores of Hornet gymnasts resulted in Essex High School winning the state championship in 2006 and again in 2007, and

Whereas, the Hornet gymnasts are always seeking new challenges, and the 2008 season served as an opportunity to prove themselves anew, and

Whereas, not only were the Hornets motivated to succeed, they demonstrated the depth of their talent by establishing a new Essex team scoring record of 141.7 points at the 2008 state championship tournament, breaking the 140.755 mark they set in 2007, as they captured their third consecutive first-place finish, and

Whereas, this total team tally was 8.275 points higher than the school’s nearest opponent, Champlain Valley Union High School, and

Whereas, the team’s new scoring benchmark featured notable individual team member accomplishments that were extremely impressive, and

Whereas, junior Mary Krug’s contribution to her team’s great day was especially memorable as she won the vault competition with 9.4 points, and she also earned the top score in the all-around event, becoming one of the four Hornets who placed in the top five among the finishers in that difficult competition, and 

Whereas, Hornet freshman Mary Parmenter’s second-place victory in the all-around event bodes well for the future of gymnastics at Essex High School, and

Whereas, the entire 2007–2008 Hornets gymnastics team, including Callie Braceras, Lauren Braunegg, Casey Claude, Kimmy Dirmaier, Leah Grzych, Julia Kilcollins, Katy Krug, Mary Krug, Courtney Lachaussie, Leanne LaPierre, Rebecca Lee, Simone Mendes, Mary Parmenter, Laura Ray, and Lori Weischedel, represents a group of dedicated student athletes, and

Whereas, coaches Kara Bissonnette and Ashley Godin are to be commended for continuing to promote the tradition of excellence among Hornet gymnasts, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the general assembly congratulates the 2008 Essex High School Hornets championship gymnastics team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Kara Bisssonnette at Essex High School.
