Joint Concurrent House Resolution

H.C.R. 249

House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2008 Lake Region Union High School Rangers Division III boys’ basketball championship team

Offered by:  Representatives Rodgers of Glover, Morley of Barton, and Marcotte of Coventry

Whereas, Lake Region High School had waited 28 years for a boys’ state basketball championship, and

Whereas, the 2007–2008 season was historic for the Rangers as they placed themselves in the winner’s circle with a consistency that was impressive, winning 17 games before their second-seed playoff ranking was announced, and

Whereas, the Rangers earned a much-coveted berth in the Division III championship game played at the Barre Auditorium (the Aud) against the top‑seeded Winooski Spartans, and

Whereas, Lake Region quickly concentrated on its winning mission and rose to the occasion, scoring eight points during the opening period which ended with the Rangers on top 19–14, and

Whereas, during the second quarter, Lake Region completed an 18–2 scoring run and they retired from the hardwood floor at halftime, based on their ball shooting accuracy and strong defensive skills, ahead 36–23, and

Whereas, the Spartans exhibited their own abilities on the court during the third quarter, reducing the Lake Region advantage from 13 points to 8, but with three‑fourths of the game complete, Lake Region was still ahead 40–32, and

Whereas, eagerly anticipating the exciting final whistle, the Rangers discovered new offensive energy in the last period and expanded their scoring margin to 14 points, winning the game 56–42, and bringing home Lake Region’s first boys’ basketball state championship along with a fantastic 21–3 season record, and

Whereas, Rangers Jordan Poutre, Sam Collette, Emmitt Simpson, Jon Jarry, Tommy Russell, Joe Gaudreau, Ryan Brown, Brandon Wells, Richie Hackett, Teddy Benoit, and Ed Collins played a season of interscholastic basketball they will long cherish, and

Whereas, coach James Ingalls exhibited great leadership skills, and the support of team managers Mikayla McAllister, Becca Poginy, and Caleb Fecher was invaluable, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 2008 Lake Region Union High School Rangers Division III boys’ basketball championship team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to James Ingalls at Lake Region High School.
