House concurrent resolution congratulating Arthur Briggs for a half-century of civic service as a member of the Cavendish volunteer fire department

Whereas, Arthur Briggs of Cavendish has been an active and enthusiastic member of the Cavendish volunteer fire department since 1957, and

Whereas, during the over-50 years that he has served as a firefighter, Arthur Briggs has responded to numerous fire calls and other emergency situations at all hours of the day and night, regardless of the weather conditions, and

Whereas, for 30 years, Arthur Briggs directed the department’s operations in his role as its first fire chief, and

Whereas, during his service as chief, Arthur Briggs participated on an active basis in the intermunicipal mutual aid system that enables fire departments from neighboring towns to assist one another during major fires and other large emergency situations, and

Whereas, although Arthur Briggs retired from the position of fire chief in 1987, he has continued to respond to calls and now serves as the department’s dispatcher and as a mentor to his firefighting colleagues, and

Whereas, in commemoration of his landmark achievement of a half-century serving as a volunteer firefighter, special recognition is in order, now therefore be it 

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives

That the General Assembly congratulates Arthur Briggs for a half-century of civic service as a member of the Cavendish volunteer fire department, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Arthur Briggs in Cavendish.
