House concurrent resolution honoring Barbara Oles for her public service as Guilford town clerk and treasurer and as a leader among her colleagues

Whereas, the daily administration of Guilford’s municipal government has been under the conscientious purview of Barbara Oles since 1984, when she was initially elected as town clerk and treasurer, and

Whereas, in order to develop a greater expertise in matters related to local government administration, Barbara Oles became both a Vermont Certified Municipal Clerk and a Vermont Certified Municipal Treasurer, and

Whereas, Barbara Oles’s strong desire to pursue advanced training in her field resulted in her becoming one of only 12 current Vermont municipal clerks who have earned the designation of Certified Municipal Clerk from the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, and

Whereas, the Vermont Municipal Clerks and Treasurers Association (VMCTA) considers Barbara Oles one of its most esteemed members, and she has worked actively and effectively on behalf of the association, and

Whereas, her leadership role in the VMCTA began in 1988 with her appointment to its scholarship committee and then her election as a member at large in 1989 and 1990, and

Whereas, the quality of her performance in these roles led to her election as the VMCTA treasurer in 1991, and she remained in that office until 1995, and

Whereas, Barbara Oles was elected the VMCTA’s 2nd vice president in 1996, 1st vice president in 1997, and her outstanding accomplishments while serving in these offices resulted in her being elected VMCTA president for 1998 and 1999, and

Whereas, in recognition of her superb leadership at the VMCTA and her outstanding work in Guilford, the VMCTA named her Town Treasurer of the Year in 1996 and Town Clerk of the Year in 2001, and

Whereas, her leadership experience in Vermont has not gone unnoticed regionally, and she has served as vice president of the New England Association of City and Town Clerks from 2004 to 2007 and on the board of directors of the New England Municipal Clerks’ Institute from 2000 to 2005, as well as serving a term as the institute’s logistics chair, and

Whereas, after this impressive record of accomplishment locally, statewide, and regionally, Barbara Oles will retire as Guilford town clerk and treasurer on Town Meeting Day 2008, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly honors Barbara Oles for her public service as Guilford town clerk and treasurer and as a leader among her colleagues, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Barbara Oles in Guilford.
