Joint Concurrent House Resolution

H.C.R. 202

House concurrent resolution congratulating the Vergennes High School Commodores 2007 Division II championship baseball team

Offered by:  Representatives Clark of Vergennes and Oxholm of Vergennes

Whereas, few knowledgeable observers viewed the 10th seeded Vergennes Union High School Commodores as leading contenders to capture the 2007 Division II baseball championship, and

Whereas, despite these statistically realistic assessments, Vergennes proceeded to bat a path into the Division II championship game against the top-seeded Mt. Abraham Union High School Eagles, and

Whereas, at this pivotal contest, played at the University of Vermont’s Centennial Field, Vergennes easily ended the Eagles’ first-inning one-run lead when Shane Montani doubled and later scored when his fellow Commodore, Tanner Price, singled him home, and

Whereas, a scoreless contest then ensued until the top of the 6th inning when the Commodores’ Zane Leno singled and stole his way to second base, igniting an offensive surge that ended with Vergennes returning to the field on top 5–1, and

Whereas, any doubt that the Division II championship belonged to Vergennes was decided in the 7th when the Eagles committed a costly two‑base throwing error that resulted in a sixth and final Commodore run, and

Whereas, Vergennes’ well-deserved 2007 Division II baseball championship can be attributed in good measure to the two-hit and seven‑strikeout pitching display of Commodore Corey Haight who also doubled two teammates home during his team’s 6th-inning scoring drive, and

Whereas, Vergennes’ entire roster, including Jason Alexander, Zane Leno, Ben Chugg, Casey Brigan, Ryan Devine, Shane Montani, Corey Haight, Adam Flynn, Tanner Price, Cam Curler, Gian Samaritoni, Dustin LeBlanc, Logan Williams, and David Kauffman, as well the Commodore’s great coach, George Ringer, are all proud of their grand 2007 season, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Vergennes High School Commodores 2007 Division II championship baseball team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to George Ringer at Vergennes Union High School.
