RESOLUTION AS INTRODUCED 2007-2008

JOINT CONCURRENT HOUSE RESOLUTION

State of Vermont

House of Representatives

Montpelier, Vermont

Joint Concurrent House Resolution

H.C.R. 196

House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2007 Missisquoi Valley Union High School Thunderbirds championship Division II girls’ cross‑country team

Offered by:  Representatives LaVoie of Swanton, Consejo of Sheldon, Allard of St. Albans Town, Branagan of Georgia, Fitzgerald of St. Albans City, Gervais of Enosburg, Gilbert of Fairfax, Howrigan of Fairfield, Keenan of St. Albans City, McAllister of Highgate and Perry of Richford

Whereas, despite rosters over the years, in many sports, that contained talented competitive athletes, Missisquoi Valley Union High School had not won a team state championship since 1994, and it had been 24 years since one of the fall athletic teams had won this honor, and

Whereas, since it was established, the girls’ cross-country team had never won a state crown, and

Whereas, during the fall of 2007, Missisquoi Valley Union High School’s interscholastic athletics achieved an historic achievement when the girls’ cross‑country team won the Division II state championship title, and

Whereas, the 2007 girls’ cross-country team entered the Division II championship race at Thetford Academy with great optimism, and despite challenging track conditions due to recent rains, three of the first six runners to complete the course were Thunderbirds, and

Whereas, based on the Thunderbirds’ speedy pace, their 44 points were the lowest in the Division, and nearly 20 points ahead of their nearest competitor, the Stratton Mountain School, making Missisquoi Valley Union High School the 2007 championship girls’ cross-country team, and

Whereas, all of these young women runners, including Allison Bruley, Adrienne Fleming, Norma Fleming, Megan Flint, Sarah Flint, Maeve Evans, and Brianna St. Amour, helped to make the 2007 season a very special one for the team, and for head coach Richard Flint and assistant coach Charlie Cline, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 2007 Missisquoi Valley Union High School Thunderbirds championship Division II girls’ cross-country team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Richard Flint at Missisquoi Valley Union High School in Swanton.
