House concurrent resolution congratulating Dorothy McGuire of Shaftsbury on her 100th birthday

Offered by:  Representatives Miller of Shaftsbury, Botzow of Pownal, Browning of Arlington, Corcoran of Bennington, Hube of Londonderry, Komline of Dorset, Krawczyk of Bennington, Malcolm of Pawlet, Manwaring of Wilmington, Mook of Bennington, Moran of Wardsboro and Morrissey of Bennington

Whereas, on the 5th of June in 1907, Dorothy McGinnis was born into a large Irish family residing in the town of Shaftsbury under the watchful eyes of her parents Timothy and Margaret (Fitzgerald) McGinnis, and

Whereas, she graduated from the former North Bennington High School, and, on July 4, 1939 was married to George H. McGuire, and

Whereas, Dorothy and George McGuire raised two children, Michael and Peggy, and today, she is the grandmother of six grandchildren and is also a great-grandmother several times over, and

Whereas, for many years, Dorothy McGuire was employed at Bennington College prior to her retirement in 1973, and

Whereas, Dorothy McGuire was active in community affairs, participating in many civic and church related activities, and

Whereas, her civic endeavors have encompassed an avid interest in politics, and she has long been proud to be a Democrat, and

Whereas, as are all right-thinking professional baseball fans in New England, Dorothy McGuire is an avid Red Sox fan and was thrilled when they won the World Series in 2004, and

Whereas, Dorothy McGuire has had the great fortune of traveling to her ancestral homeland of Ireland on many occasions, and

Whereas, she is a grand lady with a cheerful smile, a generous heart, and a caring spirit who has seen many changes in the world during the last century, and

Whereas, on June 5, 2007, Dorothy McGuire will observe that most auspicious of occasions, her 100th birthday, in grand style with her family members in attendance, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Dorothy McGuire of Shaftsbury on her 100th birthday, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Dorothy McGuire in Shaftsbury.
