RESOLUTION AS INTRODUCED 2007-2008

JOINT CONCURRENT HOUSE RESOLUTION

State of Vermont

House of Representatives

Montpelier, Vermont

Joint Concurrent House Resolution

H.C.R.  111

House concurrent resolution congratulating the Windsor High School Yellow Jackets Division III championship girls’ basketball team

Offered by:  Representatives Sweaney of Windsor, Adams of Hartland, Clarkson of Woodstock and Shand of Weathersfield

Offered by:  Senators Campbell, McCormack and Nitka

Whereas, not since 1996 had the Windsor High School Yellow Jackets won a Division III girls’ basketball championship trophy, and

Whereas, the 2006–2007 regular season was the team’s best in many years, and

Whereas, when playoff time arrived, the Yellow Jackets were awarded the No. 1 seed in recognition of their superb season-long effort, and

Whereas, this top ranking was merited as the Windsor girls defeated each of their successive opponents on their way to the championship contest at the Barre Auditorium against the No. 3-seeded Lake Region High School Rangers, and

Whereas, in the season finale, Windsor jumped to an immediate 8–0 lead and, at the halftime break, it left the court holding a 34–16 lead, and

Whereas, in the second half, the Yellow Jackets continued their scoring spree, thanks in part to Isabella Matos’ game high 20 points, and increased the Windsor lead to an overwhelming 44–16, and despite a Lake Region rebound that narrowed the Windsor advantage to 44–32, the Yellow Jackets finished the game with a  61-40 victory, and

Whereas, these energetic Windsor girls’ basketball team members, including Stacie Waite, Miranda Marsh, Suphada Rom, Katelyn Hynes, Chelsea Melendy, Isabella Matos, Megan Rosen, Marissa Chase, Bethany Brown, Stefanie Curtis, Katherine Brown, Morghan Farnsworth, Hannah Wierzbicki, and Megan Januszewski, played to win, and succeeded, and

Whereas, coach Bruce McKay, assistant coaches Tom Melendy, Ross Farnsworth, and Lance Niboli provided the team with inspired leadership, and scorekeeper Larry Macia kept everyone well informed of each game’s latest data, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the Windsor High School Yellow Jackets Division III championship girls’ basketball team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Bruce McKay at Windsor High School.
