Joint Concurrent House Resolution

House concurrent resolution honoring registered nurses’ contribution to quality health care services in Vermont

Offered by:  Representatives Donovan of Burlington, Keenan of St. Albans City and Spengler of Colchester

Whereas, the 9,900 registered nurses licensed in Vermont represent our state's largest health care resource, and

Whereas, the 500 advanced practice registered nurses in the state serve as adult-pediatric-family nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, clinical specialists, and nurse anesthetists, and

Whereas, registered nurses comprise 70 percent of the health care providers in Vermont, and

Whereas, these nurses use nursing research and evidence-based practice to provide care to Vermont residents in hospitals, long-term care facilities, schools, clinics, physician offices, correctional facilities, work places, and patients' homes, and

Whereas, registered nurses increase their education, design their practice, prevent illness, maintain wellness, improve the health care delivery system, provide for the unmet health needs of our most vulnerable citizens, and direct their research to advance nursing care, all in collaboration with other medical care professionals, and

Whereas, April 11, 2007 is being observed as Vermont Nurses’ Day at the State House, in recognition of the crucial role of registered nurses in the delivery of quality health care in Vermont, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly honors registered nurses’ contribution to quality health care services in Vermont, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Vermont State Nurses’ Association in South Burlington.
