House concurrent resolution congratulating the 2007 Danville Indians Division IV championship girls’ basketball team

Whereas, the Danville Indians have long been stars in Division IV girls’ basketball competition, having brought the championship title home in 1988, 1993, 1997, 2001, and 2003, and

Whereas, the 2006–2007 season has been one of the Danville’s best in recent years, and

Whereas, the third-seeded Indians’ skill and alertness on the basketball floor enabled Danville to surpass its preliminary round opponents and reach the final game against the fifth-seeded Twinfield Union High School Trojans at the famous Barre Auditorium, and

Whereas, the depth of the athletic talent on the Danville girls’ basketball team was revealed within moments of the opening tip-off as the Indians ignited a powerful offensive drive, leaving them with a 15-2 advantage at the close of the first quarter, and

Whereas, by halftime, Danville’s swift running, accurate shooting, and effective defense tactics had boosted the Indians’ lead to an irreversible 30-13, and

Whereas, by the third quarter’s conclusion, the Indians’ could practically touch the championship trophy, and

Whereas, when the final buzzer sounded, Danville had won its seventh girls’ basketball Division IV title by beating the Trojans 57-36, and

Whereas, Danville’s strong showing at the championship event can be attributed in part to the three Indians who scored in double figures:  Naomi White (15 points), Eliza Wakefield (14 points), and Michelle Kittredge who added an even dozen to the overall total, and

Whereas, every girl who wore the green and white Danville uniform this just-completed basketball season deserves a round of applause, including Samantha Burrington, Eliza Wakefield, Naomi White, Jenna Welch, Sierra Thresher, Tiffany Burrington, Victoria Gilbert, Molly Moran, Britthany Swatzenberg, Michelle Kittredge, Tanna Elliott, and Meghan Pastula, and manager Brittany Thresher was already ready to provide cheerful administrative assistance, and

Whereas, Coach Ron Sicard’s basketball expertise and even-handed approach to working with the team proved a winning combination, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly 2007 Danville Indians Division IV championship girls’ basketball team, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Ron Sicard at the Danville School.
