Whereas, Fletcher Joslin of Waitsfield had a distinguished career as a practicing attorney and of service to his state and community, and

Whereas, he graduated from the former Waitsfield High School, the University of Vermont, and Boston University School of Law, and

Whereas, upon his admission to the bar, he entered the private practice of law at which he excelled for over half a century until his retirement in 1992, and

Whereas, during the 1941 biennial session, Fletcher Joslin served as the member from Waitsfield, and, in 1943, he commenced a decade-long tenure as the much respected assistant clerk of the house, and

Whereas, the town of Waitsfield benefited from his administrative and legal knowledge as he served his community in many capacities over the years, including town moderator, town attorney, member of the Waitsfield zoning board of adjustment, trustee of cemetery funds, and, for 45 years, as a trustee of the Joslin Memorial Library, and

Whereas, Fletcher Joslin, in his role as town attorney, drafted the first Waitsfield zoning ordinance that the town adopted in 1971, and

Whereas, a proud sixth-generation Waitsfield resident, Fletcher Joslin chaired Waitsfield’s sesquicentennial committee in 1939, cochaired its 1989 bicentennial committee, and was an original member of the Waitsfield Historical Society, and

Whereas, he was active in many professional organizations, including the Washington County, Vermont, and American Bar associations, and

Whereas, the United Church of Christ in Waitsfield had counted Fletcher Joslin as a parishioner since 1929, and

Whereas, for 66 years, he was the husband of the recently deceased Ruth Joslin, and they were the parents of two sons, Peter and Ted, the grandparents of four grandchildren, and the great-grandparents of five great-grandchildren, and

Whereas, Fletcher Joslin’s long and productive life concluded with his passing on February 13, 2007, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly expresses its sympathies to the family of the former member from Waitsfield and assistant clerk of the house of representatives, Fletcher Joslin, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to his sons, Peter and Fletcher (Ted) Joslin, in Waitsfield.
