House concurrent resolution congratulating Zelia Parizo on her 100th birthday

Offered by:  Representatives Hunt of Essex, Atkins of Winooski, Audette of S. Burlington, Bissonnette of Winooski, Bostic of St. Johnsbury, Condon of Colchester, Heath of Westford, Hutchinson of Randolph, Keenan of St. Albans City, McCullough of Williston, Myers of Essex, Potter of Clarendon, Sweaney of Windsor and Zenie of Colchester

Whereas, Napoleon and Bertha Gaboriault of St. Sebastien, Quebec were the parents of 17 children, including a daughter, Zelia, who was born on October 22, 1906, and

Whereas, when Zelia Gaboriault was eight, the family emigrated to the United States, settling in the Lamoille County town of Elmore where the family supported itself by farming the land, and

Whereas, just seven years later, she met a neighboring farmer, Ernest Parizo, and despite her young age, they married shortly thereafter, and

Whereas, Zelia and Ernest Parizo moved to the village of Essex Junction in 1943 where she has resided for the last 63 years, and

Whereas, for 30 years, she was employed as a burler at the Winooski Woolen Mills until it ceased operations in the early 1950s, and

Whereas, Zelia and Ernest Parizo were the parents of one child, the late Bernard Parizo, who was a history teacher, a respected public official in both the village of Essex Junction and the town of Essex, and represented his community in the General Assembly, and

Whereas, since her husband’s death in 1964, Zelia has continued to live a busy life in Essex and maintained her health by walking to all her many community activities, and

Whereas, during the past century, she has witnessed vast changes in her life as the horse and buggy era gave way to the computer age, and

Whereas, this past October, she celebrated her 100th birthday in the presence of her family members, including her daughter-in-law and former Representative Mary Ann Parizo, grandchildren, Paul Parizo of Essex Junction and Marijane Gryk of South Windsor, Connecticut, and her four great‑grandsons, Tyler and Brett Parizo and Shawn and Brian Gryk, and

Whereas, she was a loving wife and mother and remains devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly extends its warmest congratulations to Zelia Parizo on reaching the special milestone of her 100th birthday, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Zelia Parizo in Essex.
