The Senate was called to order by the President pro tempore.

Devotional Exercises

Devotional exercises were conducted by the Reverend Amelia Pitton of Montpelier.

Pledge of Allegiance

The President pro tempore then led the members of the Senate in the pledge of allegiance.

Message from the Governor

Appointments Referred

     A message was received from the Governor, by Dennise R. Casey, Secretary of Civil and Military Affairs, submitting the following appointments, which were referred to committees as indicated:

     Michael Hebert of Vernon - Member of the Natural Resources Board, Water Resources Panel, - from February 1, 2008, to January 31, 2012.

     To the Committee on Natural Resources and Energy.

     Elizabeth Wilkel of Walden - Member of the Natural Resources Board, Land Use Panel, - from February 1, 2008, to January 31, 2012.

     To the Committee on Natural Resources and Energy.

     John Merrill of Stowe – Alternate Member of the Natural Resources Board, - from February 1, 2008, to January 31, 2012.

Senator Mazza Assumes the Chair

Third Reading Ordered

S. 213.

Senator Shumlin, for the Committee on Transportation, to which was referred Senate bill entitled:

An act relating to the designation of a portion of state highways in the town of Manchester as class 1 town highways.

Reported that the bill ought to pass.

Thereupon, the bill was read the second time by title only pursuant to Rule 43, and third reading of the bill was ordered.

Senator Shumlin Assumes the Chair

Bill Passed

Senate bill of the following title was read the third time and passed:

S. 342.

An act relating to Lake Champlain commemorative motor vehicle plates.

Adjournment

On motion of Senator Mazza, the Senate adjourned until one o’clock and fifty-five minutes in the afternoon.

Afternoon

The Senate was called to order by the President pro tempore.

Message from the House No. 8

     A message was received from the House of Representatives by Ms. Wrask, its Second Assistant Clerk, as follows:

Mr. President:

I am directed to inform the Senate the House has considered a joint resolution originating in the Senate of the following title:

J.R.S. 43.  Joint resolution relating to Town Meeting adjournment.

And has adopted the same in concurrence.


Joint Assembly

At two o’clock in the afternoon, the hour having arrived for the meeting of the two Houses in Joint Assembly pursuant to:

J.R.S. 41.  Joint resolution to provide for a Joint Assembly to hear the budget message of the Governor.

The Senate repaired to the hall of the House.

Having returned therefrom, at two o’clock and forty-five minutes, the President pro tempore resumed the Chair.

Adjournment

On motion of Senator Mazza, the Senate adjourned until one o’clock and thirty minutes in the afternoon on Wednesday, January 23, 2008.
