Subject:  Motor vehicles; infraction records; removal; three years

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to require that the record for each motor vehicle infraction be maintained for three years.

AN ACT RELATING TO REMOVING ALL MOTOR VEHICLE INFRACTION RECORDS AFTER THREE YEARS

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  23 V.S.A. § 102(a)(5), (6), and (7) are amended to read:

(a)  The commissioner shall:

(5)  File and record reports received of convictions and adjudications of persons violating motor vehicle laws for a period of three years for each conviction and adjudication;

(6)  Keep a record of the suspension and revocation of licenses and registrations for a period of three years for each suspension and revocation;

(7)  Prepare full statistics from and preserve, properly filed and indexed, such records of convictions, suspensions, and revocations for at least six three years after their dates;
