It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  17 V.S.A. § 2103(15) is amended to read:

(15)  "General election" means the election held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, in even numbered years.  However, the board of civil authority may authorize the town clerk to open the polls up to four days prior to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, subject to the hour limitations set forth in section 2561 of this title.  If the board of civil authority authorizes the town clerk to open the polls earlier, “general election” means the election held on all of those days authorized, including the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.  For the purpose of computing time, “general election” means the election held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
