Subject: Elections; local elections; municipal government; budgets
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to validate municipal budgets that are approved by the voters at 2008 annual meetings that might otherwise be invalidated by the decision in Mooney v. Town of Stowe, 2008 VT 19 (February 8, 2008).
AN ACT RELATING TO DECOMPOSED MUNICIPAL BUDGETS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. DECOMPOSED MUNICIPAL BUDGETS; 2008
A municipal budget that is not in substantial compliance with 17 V.S.A. § 2680(c) and that is approved by the voters pursuant to the process established by law at a municipality’s 2008 annual meeting shall not be invalidated by the decision in Mooney v. Town of Stowe, 2008 VT 19 (February 8, 2008).
Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
This act shall take effect upon passage.
