Subject: Taxation; income tax return booklet; state revenue and spending information for taxpayers
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to include a summary of state revenue and spending information in the state income tax booklet.
AN ACT RELATING TO REVENUE AND SPENDING INFORMATION FOR TAXPAYERS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 32 V.S.A. § 5861(h) is added to read:
(h) The tax commissioner shall include with the income tax booklet each year a summary of state revenue and expenditures expressed in two pie charts as follows: The first chart shall show revenue from each of the major tax sources, and the second chart shall show expenditures for each of the major categories, such as K–12 education, higher education, Medicaid, Catamount Health, highway and bridge maintenance, corrections, debt service, and state government personnel costs.
