Subject: Motor vehicles; smoking; children
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to prevent a person from possessing lighted tobacco products in a motor vehicle occupied by a child under 18 years of age.
AN ACT RELATING TO PROHIBITING SMOKING IN MOTOR VEHICLES WHEN CHILDREN ARE PRESENT
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 1134b is added to read:
§ 1134b. SMOKING IN MOTOR VEHICLES; CHILDREN
(a) No person shall possess lighted tobacco products in a motor vehicle which is occupied by a child under 18 years of age.
(b) Smoking in a motor vehicle in the presence of a child inside the vehicle shall be punishable by a fine not to exceed $100.00.
