Subject: Human services; long-term care; residential care homes; appropriations
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to authorize the commissioner of disabilities, aging, and independent living to award grants to Level III and Level IV residential care homes for the purpose of making physical improvements to their facilities.
AN ACT RELATING TO PHYSICAL IMPROVEMENTS TO RESIDENTIAL CARE HOMES
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 33 V.S.A. § 506 is added to read:
§ 506. PHYSICAL IMPROVEMENTS; GRANTS
The commissioner shall establish by rule standards for awarding grants to Level III and Level IV residential care homes for the purpose of making physical improvements to such facilities to enable them to care for patients with higher acuity and allow patients to age in place. Authorized improvements may include installation of sprinkler systems, construction of ramps, and modification of bathroom facilities to ensure wheelchair accessibility. The rules shall establish a formula for determining the amount of grants awarded under this section and minimum eligibility standards for such awards.
Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION
The sum of $300,000.00 is appropriated from the general fund to the department of disabilities, aging, and independent living in fiscal year 2009 to be used for awarding grants under section 506 of Title 33.
