Subject: Agriculture; preparation of livestock and poultry products
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to clarify the definition of an owner of livestock.
AN ACT RELATING TO THE SLAUGHTER OF LIVESTOCK
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 6 V.S.A. § 3302(43) is added to read:
(43) “Owner of the commodity” includes an individual who has signed a contract to purchase an interest in the livestock from which the commodity was prepared. The contract shall state that the livestock may be slaughtered on the premises where the livestock was raised, shall be processed by a custom processor, and may be used only for the exclusive use of the purchaser of the contract and members of his or her household and his or her nonpaying guests and employees.
