Subject: Public service; renewable energy programs; SPEED; hydropower
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to amend the definition of renewable energy as it exists in the SPEED program by deleting the maximum size limitation on hydropower facilities.
AN ACT RELATING TO ALLOWING LARGE HYDROPOWER FACILITIES TO BE INCLUDED WITHIN THE SPEED PROGRAM DEFINITION OF RENEWABLE ENERGY
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 30 V.S.A. § 8002(2) is amended to read:
(2) “Renewable energy” means energy produced using a technology that relies on a resource that is being consumed at a harvest rate at or below its natural regeneration rate.

facility to shall be considered renewable shall be from a
hydroelectric facility with a generating capacity of 200 megawatts or less.
