Subject: Education; maintenance of public schools; tuition; notice
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to require public and approved independent schools to establish tuition rates by December 28 for the following fiscal year.
AN ACT RELATING TO PROVIDING NOTICE OF ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY TUITION RATES
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 16 V.S.A. § 826(a) is amended to read:
school board, or the board of trustees of an independent school meeting school
quality standards which proposes to increase tuition charges shall notify the
school board of the school district from which its nonresident pupils come, and
the commissioner, of the proposed increase on or before
February 1 December
28 in any year; such increases shall not become effective without the
notice and not until the following school year.
Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
This act shall take effect upon passage and shall apply to tuition rates established for the 2009–2010 academic year and after.
