Subject:  Crimes; impersonation of a security guard

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to make impersonating a security guard a criminal offense.

AN ACT RELATING TO MAKING THE IMPERSONATION OF A SECURITY GUARD A CRIMINAL OFFENSE

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  13 V.S.A. § 3002 is amended to read:

§ 3002.  IMPERSONATION OF OFFICER OR SECURITY GUARD

A person who impersonates or attempts to impersonate a sheriff, deputy sheriff, constable, police officer, fish and game warden, security guard, or any other state, county, or town officer shall:

(1)  for the first offense, be imprisoned not more than six months or fined not more than $500.00, or both;

(2)  for the second offense and subsequent offenses, be imprisoned not more than two years or fined not more than $1,000.00, or both.
