Subject: Taxation; education property tax; homestead declaration
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to allow an income tax form checkoff if no homestead declaration information has changed since the prior year.
AN ACT RELATING TO HOMESTEAD DECLARATION CHECKOFF
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 32 V.S.A. § 5410(b) is amended to read:
(b) Annually on or before the due date for filing the Vermont income tax return, without extension, each homestead owner shall, on a form prescribed by the commissioner, which shall be verified under the pains and penalties of perjury, declare his or her homestead, if any, as of, or expected to be as of, April 1 of the year in which the declaration is made. No declaration shall be required if the owner has filed a declaration in a previous year and no change in homestead ownership has occurred.
Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
This act shall take effect January 1, 2009.
