Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to require school buses to display the telephone number of the bus company on the rear of the vehicle so that citizens can report instances of dangerous driving.

AN ACT RELATING TO TELEPHONE NUMBERS ON SCHOOL BUSES

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  23 V.S.A. § 1283(a)(1) is amended to read:

(a)  Types I and II school buses shall be:

(1)  identified with by: 

(A)  the words, "School Bus," “School Bus” printed in letters not less than eight inches high, located between the warning signal lamps as high as possible without impairing visibility of the lettering from both front and rear; and

(B)  the telephone number of the bus company, printed in numerals not less than eight inches high, on both the front and the rear;
