Subject: Fish and wildlife; rabid wildlife; responsibility of game wardens
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to direct game wardens to control rabid or otherwise ill wildlife. This bill also proposes to require that all game wardens be trained in the handling of rabid and otherwise ill wildlife.
AN ACT RELATING TO THE CONTROL OF RABID WILDLIFE
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 10 V.S.A. § 4194 is added to read:
§ 4194. Control of rabid wildlife
(a) Game wardens shall be responsible for the control of rabid and otherwise ill wildlife. If a game warden is unable to exercise control over rabid or otherwise ill wildlife, a municipality may exercise control over the rabid or otherwise ill wildlife, and the department of fish and wildlife shall reimburse the municipality for all reasonable costs associated with such control.
(b) All game wardens shall be trained in responding to calls regarding potentially rabid or otherwise ill wildlife and shall be trained in handling and control of rabid and otherwise ill wildlife.
