Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to require the agency of natural resources to submit a report to the general assembly regarding the federal and state laws that prohibit the sale of new diesel‑fuel‑powered automobiles in Vermont.
AN ACT RELATING TO THE SALE OF DIESEL AUTOMOBILES IN VERMONT
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. AGENCY
OF NATURAL RESOURCES REPORT ON THE SALE
OF DIESEL‑FUEL‑POWERED AUTOMOBILES
On or before January 15, 2008, the agency of natural resources shall report to the house and senate committees regarding the sale of new diesel‑fuel‑powered automobiles in Vermont. The report shall include:
(1) A summary of the federal and state statutory requirements that prevent the state from selling new diesel‑fuel‑powered automobiles;
(2) A summary of the federal and state statutory requirements that allow other states to sell new diesel‑fuel‑powered automobiles;
(3) A summary of the impact that emissions from diesel‑fuel‑powered automobiles have on the environment and methods for controlling or reducing such emissions from automobiles; and
(4) An estimate of when federal and state law will allow for the sale of new diesel‑fuel‑powered automobiles in Vermont.
