Subject: Taxation; property tax; property tax adjustments; option to receive cash payment
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to allow property tax adjustment claimants to elect to receive a cash payment.
AN ACT RELATING TO OPTIONAL CASH PAYMENT OF PROPERTY TAX ADJUSTMENT AMOUNTS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 32 V.S.A. § 6066a(g) is added to read:
(g) A claimant may elect to receive the property tax adjustment as a cash payment in lieu of a payment to the municipality for credit against the homestead property tax liability. Payments to claimants electing under this subdivision shall be made by the commissioner no later than 45 days after the claim is filed.
Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE
This act shall apply to claims filed in 2008 and after.
