Subject: Education; special assistance; stuttering; state coordinator
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to create a position of statewide coordinator on early stuttering intervention to coordinate speech‑language pathologists working with preschoolers in the state with the goal of eliminating stuttering in the state.
AN ACT RELATING TO STATEWIDE COORDINATOR ON STUTTERING
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT; COORDINATOR ON EARLY STUTTERING INTERVENTION
For fiscal year 2008, there is appropriated to the University of Vermont for the Eleanor M. Luse Center Clinic from the general fund the amount of $90,000.00 to create a position of statewide coordinator on early stuttering intervention to coordinate speech‑language pathologists working with preschoolers in the state; to provide training pursuant to the Lidcombe Program of Early Stuttering Intervention; to mentor Lidcombe‑trained clinicians working with preschoolers; to develop and maintain a website to serve both clinicians and families working with preschoolers who are beginning to stutter; to gather data on the effectiveness of the Lidcombe Program of Early Stuttering Intervention; and to publicize the program.
