Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to authorize the commissioner of disabilities, aging, and independent living to award grants to persons with disabilities for the purpose of providing financial assistance for expenses related to making a motor vehicle wheelchair‑accessible.
AN ACT RELATING TO WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 33 V.S.A. § 506 is added to read:
§ 506. WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBILITY; GRANTS
The commissioner shall establish by rule standards for awarding grants to persons with disabilities, or their guardians, for the purpose of providing financial assistance for expenses related to making a motor vehicle wheelchair‑accessible. The rules shall establish a formula for determining the amount of the grants awarded under this section and minimum eligibility standards for such awards.
Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION
There is appropriated to the department of disabilities, aging, and independent living the amount of $480,000.00 in general funds to be used for awarding grants under section 506 of Title 33.
