Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to compensate volunteer fire departments and volunteer rescue squads $50.00 for responding to a call on a state or interstate highway.
AN ACT RELATING TO COMPENSATING VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS AND VOLUNTEER RESCUE SQUADS FOR RESPONDING TO CALLS ON STATE AND INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 20 V.S.A. § 2963a is added to read:
§ 2963a. VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENTS; VOLUNTEER RESCUE
SQUADS; COMPENSATION FOR RESPONDING TO
(a) Each volunteer fire department and volunteer rescue squad which responds to an emergency motor vehicle call on a state or interstate highway shall be paid $50.00 per call, unless reimbursed by insurance.
(b) The administrative officer of a fire department, fire district, water district, or rescue company which is eligible for the payment under this section shall complete a compensation form, which the state treasurer shall design for this purpose, and attach a signed copy of the department incident report. Upon receipt of a completed form signed by the administrative officer for the payment authorized under this section, the state treasurer shall issue a warrant for the commissioner of finance and management to make the payment authorized in subsection (a) of this section. A single department shall not be entitled to compensation in excess of $500.00 in any fiscal year.
