Subject: Public safety; fire prevention; fire code; sprinkler requirements; nightclubs
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to make the fire code rule that requires sprinkler systems to be installed in certain nightclubs not applicable to existing buildings but applicable only to newly constructed, created, or renovated nightclubs.
AN ACT RELATING TO NIGHTCLUBS AND SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. FIRE
CODE; SPRINKLER SYSTEMS; NIGHTCLUBS; EXISTING
BUILDINGS; RULE CHANGE
Notwithstanding adoption, by the department of public safety, of the National Fire Protection Association standard 101, relating to requiring sprinkler systems in certain nightclubs, the standard shall not apply to nightclubs that were in existence as of January 1, 2006, and at that time were not required to install a sprinkler system. The N.F.P.A. standard 101 shall be applied only to buildings that change their use to a nightclub, as defined in the rule, a new constructed nightclub, or a substantially renovated nightclub.
