Subject: Motor vehicles; highways; centerlines; farm tractors; farm trailers
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to require motor vehicle operators to obey highway markings which indicate passing and no‑passing zones, except when passing farm tractors or farm trailers which are traveling below the speed limit.
AN ACT RELATING TO PASSING AND NO‑PASSING ZONES ON HIGHWAYS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 1036(d) is added to read:
(d) Notwithstanding the provisions of this section, if a highway is marked in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration’s Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, all vehicle operators, except when overtaking a farm tractor or farm trailer traveling below the speed limit, shall adhere to the designated passing and no‑passing zones.
