Subject: Motor vehicles; safety belts; primary enforcement
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to provide for primary enforcement of the safety belt law.
AN ACT RELATING TO PRIMARY ENFORCEMENT OF THE SAFETY BELT LAW
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. REPEAL
23 V.S.A. § 1259(e) (secondary enforcement of safety belt law) is repealed.
Sec. 2. IMPLEMENTATION
Any person violating 23 V.S.A. § 1259 during the period July 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007 shall be given a warning of violation only. Thereafter, the penalty shall be as provided in 23 V.S.A. § 1259(f).
Sec. 3. ACCEPTANCE OF FEDERAL FUNDS
The state is authorized to accept any additional funding available from the federal government attributable to the passage of this act.
