Subject: Conservation; forests and parks; admission
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to allow students in a municipality in which any portion of a state park or state forest is located to be admitted to that park or forest without fee or charge.
AN ACT RELATING TO FREE ADMISSION TO STATE PARKS AND STATE FORESTS for local STUDENTS
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 10 V.S.A. § 2603(c) is amended to read:
commissioner, subject to the direction and approval of the secretary, shall
and publish regulations in the name of the agency for the use of state
forests or park lands, including reasonable fees or charges for the use of the
lands, roads, camping sites, buildings, and other facilities and for the
harvesting of timber or removal of minerals or other resources from such lands,
notwithstanding section 603 of Title 32.
commissioner of forests, parks and recreation shall be permitted to
(not to exceed one season per project) adjust fees and charges temporarily
(not to exceed one season per project) at any area for the purpose of bona
fide scientific research.
(3) The commissioner of forests, parks and recreation shall be permitted to develop state park experimental services, promotional programs, and vacation or special event packages and adjust rates for those services and packages to promote the park system and increase campground occupancy.
(4) The commissioner of forests, parks and recreation shall allow public school students to attend without fee or charge school functions taking place during school hours on state forest or park lands.
(5) Fees charged under this section shall be reported in accordance with section 605 of Title 32.
