Subject: Motor vehicles; registration plates; special plates; skiing; maple syrup
Statement of purpose: This bill proposes to authorize the department of motor vehicles to issue special registration plates which promote skiing and maple syrup.
AN ACT RELATING TO SPECIAL MOTOR VEHICLE
REGISTRATION PLATES WHICH PROMOTE SKIING AND
It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:
Sec. 1. 23 V.S.A. § 304d is added to read:
§ 304d. SKIING AND MAPLE SYRUP MOTOR VEHICLE
The commissioner shall, upon application, issue skiing and maple syrup registration plates for use only on vehicles registered at the pleasure car rate and on trucks registered for less than 26,001 pounds and excluding vehicles registered under the International Registration Plan. Plates so acquired shall be mounted on the front and rear of the vehicle. The commissioner of motor vehicles shall determine the graphic design of the special plates in a manner which serves to enhance the public awareness of the state's interest in promoting skiing and maple syrup. Applicants may apply for either skiing or maple syrup plates on forms prescribed by the commissioner. There shall be an initial one-time fee of $20.00 in addition to the annual fee for registration. The commissioner shall adopt rules under 3 V.S.A. chapter 25 to implement the provisions of this section.
