Subject:  Taxation and finance; fees and costs; grand and petit jurors in superior and district court

Statement of purpose:  This bill proposes to increase the compensation for jurors to the same per diem fee (currently $50.00) paid to members of certain boards.

AN ACT RELATING TO THE COMPENSATION OF GRAND AND PETIT JURORS IN SUPERIOR AND DISTRICT COURT

It is hereby enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Vermont:

Sec. 1.  32 V.S.A. § 1511 is amended to read:

§ 1511.  GRAND AND PETIT JURORS IN SUPERIOR AND DISTRICT COURT

There shall be allowed to grand and petit jurors in the superior and district court the following fees and expenses:

(1)  For attendance, $30.00 a day, on request by the juror, a per diem fee equal to that paid to members of certain boards as provided in subsection 1010(a) of this title, unless the jurors were juror was otherwise compensated by their his or her employer;.

(2)  For each talesman, $30.00 a day, on request by the talesman, a per diem fee equal to that paid to members of certain boards as provided in subsection 1010(a) of this title, unless the talesmen were talesman was otherwise compensated by their his or her employer;.

(3)  Upon request and upon a showing of hardship, reimbursement for expenses necessarily incurred for travel from home to court, and return, at the rate of reimbursement allowed state employees for travel under the terms of the prevailing collective bargaining agreement.
