Whereas, Vermont sports fans have long appreciated the insightful and accurate observations that characterize Rutland native J.J. Cioffi’s sports reports on WCAX television, and
Whereas, for 17 years, J.J. Cioffi has covered the sports beat as a 6:00 p.m. anchor and the station’s sports director, winning much praise from viewers and his fellow sports journalists, and
Whereas, the quality of his sports coverage is reflected in his repeatedly being honored as the recipient of the Vermont Associated Press Best Sportscast Award and as the four-time winner of the Burlington Free Press Reader’s Choice Best TV Sportscaster Award, and
Whereas, the breadth of his reporting in the amateur sports arena has encompassed local high school competition, UVM, Middlebury College, Norwich University, and other colleges’ athletic activities, the NCAA basketball tournament, and perceptive coverage of the Winter Olympics, and
Whereas, his professional sports focus has been directed on Boston’s Red Sox, Bruins, and Celtics and the New England Patriots, and
Whereas, after an illustrious career as one of Vermont’s premier sports broadcasters, J.J. Cioffi will be laying his WCAX microphone aside for the final time later this year, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the general assembly honors J.J. Cioffi as an outstanding Vermont sports broadcaster and extends to him best wishes as he looks forward to new life endeavors, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to J.J. Cioffi at WCAX-TV in Burlington.
