Whereas, prior to this year, the Mount Anthony Union High School Patriots had captured 19 consecutive state high school wrestling titles in an historic athletic odyssey that continued forward with immense vigor at the 2008 Vermont championship meet held at the Keefe Gymnasium in Rutland City, and
Whereas, the Patriots were in top form as they faced 20 other schools who sought the distinction of defeating the Patriots, a dream that was truly far beyond their grasp, and
Whereas, when all of the two-day tournament’s wrestling matches had concluded, the Patriots had won their 20th state championship, earning a massive victory as they scored 290.5 points while their nearest opponent, Mount Mansfield Union High School, despite its roster of outstanding wrestlers, including two individual champions, trailed 150.5 points behind, and
Whereas, seven of the Patriots won individual championships, in their respective weight classes, including Mike Bradley (103 pounds), Jacob Shortt, (119 pounds), Scott Legacy II (130 pounds), Matt Parisi (140 pounds), Damian Legacy (152 pounds), Matt McVay (189 pounds), Ethan Furlon (285 pounds), and the other outstanding team members are Zech Burke, Cody Wilkins, Zach Randall, Cole Frost, Brad Sawyer, and Kyle Lane, and
Whereas, beyond the accolades of their hometown fans, the Patriots are especially thrilled to have set a national high school wrestling record with their 20th consecutive state championship victory, and
Whereas, the team’s success is made possible with the great support of the many individuals associated with the Mount Anthony Union High School wrestling program, including coach Scott Legacy, who has piloted all 20 of the state championship teams, assistant coaches Eric Becker, Shawn Legacy, T.J. Maroney, Kyle Willard, Dwayne Metcalf, Derrick Tienken, Fred LaBrake, and Dan Pierce, junior varsity head coach Ben Lackey, assistant junior varsity coach Bucky Noyes, and student assistants Katie Nelson, Jessica Altiery, and Tesla Shaw who are responsible for statistics, and team manager Paul Redden, now therefore be it
Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:
That the General Assembly congratulates the Mount Anthony Union High School Patriots’ 2008 Vermont championship wrestling team on winning a national record-setting 20th consecutive state title, and be it further
Resolved: That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Scott Legacy at Mount Anthony Union High School.
