Whereas, Sarah Hurlbut of St. Albans is a devoted parishioner of Holy Angels Church in St. Albans and regularly recites the rosary with residents of a local nursing home, and

Whereas, her deeply held religious convictions are exercised in secular venues through her extensive itinerary of volunteer responsibilities, and

Whereas, over the course of many years, this St. Albans Bay native has donated her time and energy to numerous good works, assisting both individuals and organizations, and

Whereas, the scope of Sarah Hurlbut’s volunteer activities has been diverse and in past years has included driving cancer patients to their chemotherapy appointments, performing secretarial work for an AIDS advocacy organization, working in the kitchen at the Vermont Respite House, and driving from St. Albans to Brattleboro to take hot meals to a woman who was terminally ill, and

Whereas, currently, she is volunteering as a gift shop cashier at the Northwestern Medical Center and coordinating lunches for Franklin and Grand Isle Habitat for Humanity work crews, even purchasing pizza for the crews out of her own pocket, and

Whereas, Sarah Hurlbut’s most unusual volunteer enterprise is no doubt her participation in a 2005 mission that the Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph organized to deliver medical and school supplies to the Dominican Republic, and

Whereas, while in the Dominican Republic, she demonstrated her commitment to the mission when she helped paint several rooms in a home for low income individuals, and more, recently, she assisted in the loading of medical supplies into a large shipping container that was sent to the Dominican Republic, and

Whereas, Sarah Hurlbut has been described as a caring and dedicated individual who is a friend to all, and

Whereas, she and her husband, John, are the parents of five children, Joseph, Timothy, Wendy, Chad, and John Jr., and have 10 grandchildren, and

Whereas, Sarah Hurlbut’s exemplary community service was recognized when she was named the most recent recipient of the Franklin County Person of the Year Award, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates Sarah Hurlbut of St. Albans on being named the most recent Franklin County Person of the Year, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Sarah Hurlbut in St. Albans.
