Whereas, for over a quarter of a century, Paul Normandeau has served the town of Dummerston in many important municipal government capacities, and

Whereas, Paul Normandeau began his public career in 1975, when he won a seat on the Dummerston board of civil authority as a justice of the peace, and

Whereas, although he continued as a justice of the peace for the next 30 years, over this three-decade period Paul Normandeau was also an active member of Dummerston’s municipal government in several other roles, and

Whereas, in 1977, Paul Normandeau was appointed to the Dummerston planning commission, a post he held until 1989, and he became well acquainted with development proposals in the community, and

Whereas, the expertise that Paul Normandeau gained in the local planning process made him an ideal candidate to represent Dummerston from

1984 to 1990 on the Windham Regional Planning Commission, and

Whereas, as Dummerston’s weigher of coal for over 20 years, from

1978 to 1999, he was entrusted with this long-standing office in Vermont municipal government, and

Whereas, in 1998, this veteran local official was elected to the Dummerston Selectboard, on which he has served for the past decade, and

Whereas, in 1999, Paul Normandeau also assumed the post of town service officer, which he retained for a two-year period, and

Whereas, this impressive history of municipal public service will conclude when Paul Normandeau retires from the Dummerston Selectboard on Town Meeting Day 2008, and

Whereas, since 1975, the Dummerston citizenry has been most fortunate to benefit from the public service of Paul Normandeau and will miss his experience and wise counsel, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly honors Paul Normandeau for his many civic contributions to the town of Dummerston and wishes him well on his retirement from the town’s selectboard, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to Paul Normandeau in Dummerston.
