ACT OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2007-2008

AutoFill Template

NO. R-291.  House concurrent resolution wishing the New England Patriots good luck in Super Bowl XLII.

(H.C.R.204)

Offered by:  Representative Obuchowski of Rockingham

Whereas, professional football fans in New England were once forced to look beyond the region’s boundaries to find a team to cheer, and

Whereas, this unfortunate dilemma was remedied with the birth of the New England Patriots, who, for nearly half a century, have represented our region on the gridiron turf, be it natural or artificial, and

Whereas, the New England Patriots of the 1960s were among the old American Football League’s greatest franchises, despite their nomadic wanderings around Boston in search of a permanent home field, and

Whereas, the contemporary New England Patriots, now securely housed in their own ultra-modern stadium located in Foxborough, Massachusetts, have far surpassed the notable Sunday triumphs of their earlier predecessors, and

Whereas, under the strategic genius of their amazing head coach Bill Belichick, the New England Patriots have won three prior Super Bowl titles, and

Whereas, the 2007–2008 football season has been an historic one for the New England Patriots, as this seemingly invincible team, including their great quarterback, Tom Brady, have thrilled their fans each week with a victory that has on occasion been hard-won, and

Whereas, the New England Patriots’ 21–12 win over the San Diego Chargers on Sunday, January 20, at Foxborough earned them the 2007 American Football Conference title and brought their season record to 18–0, a feat no NFL team has ever accomplished, and

Whereas, the New England Patriots can now earn their ultimate goals of becoming the Super Bowl XLII champions and only the second team in NFL history other than the 1972 Miami Dolphins to record an undefeated season, and

Whereas, New Englanders will be cheering their home region team as the New England Patriots face the New York Giants at Super Bowl XLII in Phoenix on Sunday, February 3, now therefore be it

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives:

That the General Assembly congratulates the 2007 New England Patriots on their 2007 American Football Conference championship and their record‑breaking 18 consecutive-victory season and wishes them good luck in Super Bowl XLII, and be it further

Resolved:  That the secretary of state be directed to send a copy of this resolution to New England Patriot Head Coach Bill Belichick in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
